Ghana loses 1-0 to Russia in international friendly
The Black Stars of Ghana lost by a goal to Russia at the Stadion Locomotiv on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the 20th minute through Krasnodar attacker Fyodor Smolov assisted by Alexandr Smolov.
The Black Stars dictated the pace from the start of the game but lost control mid way in the first half where the Russians took over the game and nearly made it two but the excellent pair of Jonathan Mensah alongside John Boye prevented the Eagles from increasing the tally.
The tempo of the game changed in the second half with the hosts dominating play.
In the 81st minute goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey saw the ball slip through his hands but was cleared on the goal-line by John Boye.
Coach Avram made three substitutions with David Accam taking Frank Acheampong’s place, Alfred Duncan for Wakaso Mubarak and Samuel Tetteh coming on for Afriyie Acquah.
These substitutes couldn’t make any difference with the scoreline staying the same after 90-minutes.
The foreign based players will leave on Wednesday to their various teams in Europe while officials return to Ghana with two local players in the squad.
