NDC Manifesto Highlights: President Mahama announces plan to set up fund for Aging Artists
President Mahama has presented highlights of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2016 manifesto on Tuesday, 13th September, 2016 at the Banquet Hall in Accra.
The highlights captured the most important projects outlined the 2016 manifesto document which will be unveiled on 17th September 2016 at Sunyani.
Touching on the Creative Arts industry, President Mahama hinted that if re-elected, his government would set up a Provident fund for ageing artists to take care of them as they lose their strength with age.
“You find that a lot of these artistes…we like them very much, we like their music and all that but because of piracy and other things they are not able to make enough money or even when they make money and they are young, they don’t invest sufficiently so when they grow old, a lot of them become quite indigent and poor.
“So the Ministry of Tourism Culture is going to set up a Provident Fund so that aging artistes can receive a small monthly stipend so that they don’t live in poverty and misery,” he said.
The President also indicated that a number of recreational centers would be created and others rehabilitated to help promote tourism in the country.
