UG Vice Chancellor Condemns Acts Of Vandalism on Campus
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has condemned in no uncertain terms the behaviour put up by students of Commonwealth hall and Mensah Sarbah hall hours before the start of 2016/2017 matriculation ceremony on Saturday, 8th October, 2016.
Students of the two halls clashed in a dispute over procession route resulting in destruction of properties including setting ablaze of a Toyota Corolla car with registration number GR 5514-16.
He said, the University will not entertain such acts of vandalism on campus although students are free to engage with each other. He added that, it has never been part of the history of the University to allow students to destroy its properties and so they will not allow that.
The Vice Chancellor said this in his address at the 2016/17 matriculation ceremony to induct newly admitted students into the University.
He advised the students- both freshers and continuing students to refrain from such acts.
“Let me advice you to refrain from such acts of vandalism,” he told the students.
Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu also indicated that a thorough investigation will be carried out to bring the perpetrators to book. He stated that appropriate sanctions will be applied once the culprits are identified and urged the students and the general public to accept the outcome.
