Master Liar Bawumia At It Again- Fiifi Kwettey

Agric Minister Fiifi Kwettey said Ghanaians must now know that the NPP running mate Dr Mahmoud Bawumia is an ‘unrepentant’ liar. He said the NPP running mate since he became the running mate to NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo has developed the penchant for peddling untruths without any shame. He said there are so many distortions that have been created by Dr. Bawumia and Nana Addo all in a bid to deceive Ghanaians in their desperate endeavor to win power.

He said “there are so many of such deliberate distortions and outright lies of Nana Addo that we can mention. But let’s pause and consider the lies of his running mate who is obviously in competition with his boss as to who should wear the crown as the bigger liar. Nana Addo has repeatedly lied in his utter desperation for power- but at least, he has to date not been known to have lied under oath. Bawumia has! He swore on the holy Koran and lied blatantly and in the process not only dishonored Allah but also committed perjury. This happened at the Supreme Court when in his sworn affidavit, and later under cross examination, Dr. Bawumia asserted that he and his team had submitted documentary evidence in respect of 11,842 polling stations. This claim was established to be a blatant lie when the lordships of the Supreme Court ordered KPMG, an independent professional outfit to do a recount to determine the number of polling stations. The outcome was no more than 8675 polling stations. Bawumia was therefore shown to be a discredited witness who blatantly lied under oath”

Speaking at the second edition of the governing National Democratic Congress’ Setting the Records Straight series in Accra on October 11, Mr Kwetey cited a number of instances of where the former Deputy Central Bank Governor peddled falsehood.

  • What lie can he not tell when he has no fear to lie even under oath? Are we surprised that at a press conference at Alisa Hotel, he claimed that he had evidence of 76,000 foreigners from Togo, Cote D’ Ivoire and Burkina Faso on the Ghanaian voters’ register. He lied also that he had presented 10% of the evidence and that the remaining 90% would be released not long after. The 10% turned out to be a pure fabrication and several months on he is yet to bring out the 90% phantom list.
  • He lied also that the NDC Government has borrowed $37b in seven years. How a $40b economy, whose debt to GDP at the last count stands at 65% could have borrowed nearly the same $40b can only be explained by him. It’s one thing to lie- it’s another thing to show such naivety in peddling blatant lies.
  • Dr. Bawumia also lied at a lecture to students of Central University College that the African Development Bank had suspended Ghana and that the ban was still in force as at the date of his lecture. This also proved to be another pure fabrication.
  • Whereas virtually all analysts, from the IMF through credit rating agencies and international financial markets all the way to NPPs Ranking Member on Finance were unanimous that the most critical problem that faced Ghana in 2013 and 2014 was the single spine salary, only Dr. Bawumia for reasons best known to himself refused to acknowledge this irrefutable truth- but what do we expect from a man who has no problem lying under oath and after swearing on the Holy Koran?

Social and political commentators have expressed worry and concern over the persisted display of intellectual dishonesty, the deceptive and spin remarks by the NPP´s running mate Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, often been pooh-poohed with the aid of accurate facts.

The former deputy Central Bank Governor appears to be unperturbed and has continued on that trajectory.

Dr Bawumia who was in recent times exposed with genuine facts and sacred records over his delusional goofs with regards to the “Togo Register”saga, among others made untrue and unfair comments at the least opportunity

It’s time to face the hard truth; NPP presidential running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

has sunk to the lowest level of gutter politics.

The NPP (led by its presidential nominee Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Bawumia) have been building their campaign on lies and paranoia. But no one gets in the gutter quite like Bawumia. The former deputy governor of the Central Bank is turning lies on campaign platforms into an art form.

To liberal analysts, this whole Bawumia display is boggling. Ghanaians are supposed to be competent enough to dress themselves, read the address of Bawumia’s rallies and show up on time.

But, somehow it seems decent minds continue to believe the stuff that’s so crazy and so false that it’s impossible to believe anyone that isn’t barking mad could believe it. What’s going on?

First, probably we need to get this straight. On the surface, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is behaving like a troll.

A troll according, to the urban dictionary, is “someone who leaves an intentionally annoying message on the internet, in order to get attention or cause trouble.”

Trolls harass others over their opinions, looks, gender, career and offline.

Not all trolls are dangerous; sometimes people troll out for harmless fun. But there is a kind of trolling that is disruptive, inflicts pain and spread lies.

The NPP presidential running mate nominee is the latter kind. His behavior fits the description of trolls that exists offline. All he does is to say and do annoying things just to have our attention.

When he claimed there were over 76,000 Togolese on Ghana’s voters’ register that was him being deliberately provocative. He knew that the allegation was a lie but he defended it all the same

It has therefore become an undeniable fact that Dr.  Bawumia has established himself as a liar and for that matter Ghanaians cannot entrust destiny of Ghana into your hands as Fiifi Kwettey stated.
