Harvard Professor Delivers Lecture At Legon
Professor John Macomber, a Senior Lecturer in the Finance unit at Harvard Business School has delivered a public lecture at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).
The event was well attended by students and various players in the financial sector and the business world.
Speaking on the theme: “Is now the time? Opportunities for Private Financing of Public Infrastructure in the Global South”, Professor Macomber noted that desirably, it is every government’s duty to provide infrastructure for the good of all citizens, however, governments around the world are stuck—financially, politically, or both hence are unable to fully implement solutions to problems of urbanization.
As a result, this provides an opportunity to the private sector players to forge partnerships with governments in order to implement solutions to some of the problems of urbanization especially in the provision of infrastructure.
He added that, these require large amounts of capital, exceptional managerial skill, and significant alignment of interests. All these he said, abound in the private sector.
The Harvard Business School Senior Lecturer discussed the keys to making Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model work, based on his research in these areas.
He stressed that every infrastructure that will be developed has to comply with sustainability characteristics and this for all aspects of sustainability: social, environment, and economic.
The lecture was chaired by Mr. Philip Oti-Mensah, CEO, OmniBank.
