Photo Report: President Mahama Visits Gas Explosion Victims

President John Dramani Mahama has visited victims of Thursday’s gas explosion that occurred near Accra International Trade Fair Centre.


The president, together with a team from the Presidency and the Minister of Interior toured the 37 Military hospital to access the degree of injuries the victims have suffered as a result of the explosion.


After the tour, President Mahama shared this on his Facebook timeline: ‘I went by the 37 Military Hospital today to visit some of the victims of Thursday’s gas explosion near the Trade Fair Centre. All on admission at 37 are doing well. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives’.


In a related development, the Minister of Health, Hon Alex Segbefia and his deputy Dr Victor Bampoe, have also toured 37 Military, La General and Korle-Bu Teaching hospital(s).


They visited victims of the Accra Trade Fair Centre LP gas explosion to make a rapid assessment of logistic needs for the health facilities to take care of the patients.


“Some patients are in very bad condition but our gallant health workers are doing their best to save them. The Minister will make a follow-up visit to the facilities later this morning and we will make arrangements for the provision of logistics to cater for the patients.” Dr Victor Bampoe shared on his timeline after the visit.


The unfortunate incident happened at around 4pm , and it is reported that 5 people died at the scene.

The breakdown of patients at the health facilities is as follows – 37 Military : 27; Korle-Bu : 6; La General polyclinic 6.
