Youth Web Group, organizers of the annual Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary student’s awards have officially launched UMB Ghana Tertiary Awards (GTA) 2017.

The awards scheme, which is in its fourth year was launched on the theme: “Mobilizing for Ghana’s Future the Role of Tertiary Students” at the Airport View Hotel in Accra on Saturday, 22nd April, 2017.

The Chief Executive Officer of Youth Web Group, Mr Richmond Amofa–Sarpong in his address called on the government to consider making tertiary education free as most of the current leaders enjoyed during their time.

“We are calling on the government to make sure that, as it were during their time and i know our government is a listening government so they will make tertiary education free as they had during their period,” he said.

Article 25(c) of the 1992 constitution of Ghana demands that higher education should equally be made accessible to all persons, on the basis of capacity, by every appropriate means, and in particular by progressive introduction of free education.

He hinted that, his outfit will embark on this campaign to ensure that tertiary education is made free.

“Nothing is impossible, I know it’s a long journey but this will be done and it will be a campaign that we will run,” he added.

The awards competition will highlight the best student personalities in the county and give tertiary students the chance to nominate and then vote for their favourites.
